Wanda Louise Schwoerer

–

Pleasant Hill, California

Wanda L. Schwoerer passed away peacefully in Lafayette, CA, on November 24, 2013, at the age of 91. She is survived by her loving family: Daughter, Lisa Scott, granddaughter, Hayley Scott, and son-in-law, Mano Scott. She is also survived by her niece, Ann Quinn, her great-nieces, Ashley Postlewaite and Barclay Quinn, all of Los Angeles, and her nephew, William Mitchell of Columbus, OH. She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell Schwoerer, and her brother, Col. Donald Fronsdahl.

Wanda was born on April 24, 1922 in Boone, Iowa, the second of two children born to Florence and N. Martin Fronsdahl. She was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage and of her home town and state. Wanda graduated as an RN from Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines in 1943. After working a year, she enlisted in the Army, because, as she always said, nurses were needed overseas, and everyone felt their patriotic duty. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant, WWII Army Nurse Corps, in the 76th Field Hospital on Okinawa and Saipan. After the war, Wanda worked in hospitals in Chicago and later, San Francisco where she met the love of her life, Wendell Schwoerer. After their marriage, she worked in his dental practice, until their daughter, Lisa, was born. Widowed at a young age, she dedicated herself to her daughter, the care of her mother and was actively involved in the local Church. In addition, she was involved with philanthropic organizations such as the Lincoln Child Center, local literacy programs, as a coach, and the PEO Sisterhood, as an active member and past president. Wanda supported all things local, including her Oakland A's! She loved the outdoors--hiking, especially in Yosemite, cycling, birding and gardening--and the Arts. She was a person who was known for her caring for others, and will be remembered for her sense of humor, kindness and generous spirit.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial service on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Piedmont Community Church (400 Highland Avenue, Piedmont, CA 94611), followed by a reception at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Guide Dogs for the Blind, or your charity of choice.
