Steven Shizuo Sakahara

–

Pleasant Hill, California

Steven Shizuo Sakahara, 67, of Martinez, California, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday January 19, 2017 due to complications from pancreatic cancer.

Steve was born in Lodi, California on October 9, 1949 to Bill and Nobuye Sakahara. He graduated from Lodi High School where he was a member of the swim team. He had very fond memories of going fishing with his father and participating in Boy Scouting, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Delta Junior College and California State University Hayward where he met his wife Teresa. Steve worked in various aspects of telecommunications, retiring as an engineer after 20 years of service in the industry. He continued to enjoy fishing throughout his life and relaxed by spending time with Teresa in Santa Cruz, California. In recent years, Steve and Teresa found joy in a new pastime: exploring various destinations with their travel trailer and developing many new friendships through these activities.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Teresa, parents Bill and Nobuye Sakahara, sister Glyneth (John McKay), brother-in-law Bill Kohler, niece Anne Taylor nee Eklund (John Taylor), nephew Casey Eklund, grand nephew Miles Taylor, mother-in-law Lillie Tong, brother-in-law Arnold Tong, sister-in-law Mona Nelson, nephew Ryan Tong (WeiWei), niece Stacy Amorim nee Low (Travis Amorim), three grand nieces, Olivia and Izabel Amorim, and Adelyn Tong, and his beloved dogs, Razor and Koko. Steve was preceded in death by his sister Jeanne Kohler, father-in-law Bing Tong, and sister-in-law Judy Chan-Tong.

At Steve's request, there will be no services held and that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
