Shirley Louise Canning-Bingham, age 91, went to be with our Lord on November 14, 2017, after a brief illness with cancer. She was born May 9, 1926 in San Francisco to Raymond Clark and LaVina Morris Clark. Shirley spent most of her life in Oakland with her late husband, George (Mike) Canning. After his death in 1989, she met and married Clarence Bingham in 1992. In 1994 they moved to the Brentwood area. Her first job as a teenager was with the Oakland Tribune during WWll. After the war came marriage and a family of five children. Shirley worked for the San Lorenzo School District and retired from the Piedmont School District. She volunteered for several organizations, including the Red Cross, and was an active member of the Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints Brentwood 2nd Ward. Throughout her life her kind heart always had room for caring for family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and as a compassionate, generous and dependable person. Shirley greatly enjoyed traveling and hiking. At the age of 89 she was able to go on a tour in Africa, where she "went on safari" right along with the rest of the tour group. Amazing! She is survived by her children Joan Cunningham of Stockton, Diane (Mike) Maloney of Goodyear, AZ, David (Cathy) Canning of Fremont, William Canning of Brentwood and stepchildren Carol (Jaime) Paredes of Hayward, Adele Rosner of Gladys, VA and Eric (Elizabeth) Bingham of Rock Springs, WY; 10 Grandchildren; 17 Great grandchildren; Sister Joan Porter-Christie of St. George, UT; many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her spouses George (Mike) Canning and Clarence Bingham; Daughter Jean Armstrong-McDaniel-Murdock; Granddaughters Kimberly and Bonnie McDaniel; Son-in-laws Charles (Chip) Cunnigham and Gary Murdock; Brother Raymond Clark. A Celebration of Life Luau will be held on Saturday, November 25th, at 11:30am at the Summerset I Recreation Center, 1675 Crispin Drive, Brentwood. The family wishes to thank Mom's many friends and church members who surrounded us with loving support and prayers during Mom's illness.
