Robert "Bob" McKay, 68, of Alamo and former Oakland resident, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Bob was the cherished husband of 44 years to Rosemary, beloved father to Naomi (Orinda) and Aaron (Danville), and grandpa to Blake, Lucy, Adam, Audrey, Cole, Sophie, and Brooke.
Bob was born on July 11, 1949, in Oakland to George and Marget McKay. He graduated from Polytechnic High School, San Francisco, in 1967. Bob graduated from Chico State in 1972, with a B.A. Industrial Arts. He worked in the ocean marine insurance industry for 35 years in San Francisco, St. Louis, and Chicago. Bob was popular at work and a beloved boss.
Outside of work, Bob was an avid sailor and grew up racing with his dad on the San Francisco Bay. Sailing most of his adult life, he enjoyed the competition, winning many races with his son. Bob also loved to play golf, fish, watch movies, especially Westerns, shop, and do home improvement projects. He loved extensive home remodeling, just so his homes could be "Bob"ified and always with a Coke in his hand.
Bob loved his family and friends and was happy to chat with anyone. Bob was a Christian and strived to be a good example of Christ's love to those around him. He had been an active member at First Presbyterian Church, Berkeley for 35 years until 2012, when he moved to Alamo, attending Creekside Community Church. He will be remembered for his love of people and his acceptance of everyone.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to East Bay Hospice and Creekside Community Church for their love and support.
A Memorial Service for Bob will be held at Creekside Community Church, in Alamo, on Sunday, October 8th.
