Pleasant Hill, California
Joy Hall, 78, from Pleasant Hill, CA, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2017.
Joy was born in Portland, OR to Bette and Joe Garcia in 1939.
True to her name, Joy was always smiling, full of life, and beauty. She was kindhearted, patient, and loving to all who knew her.
After graduating from art school in Portland, Joy journeyed to San Francisco to have a grand adventure with friends. She married, and raised her two children Catherine & Mark in Pleasant Hill. Pursuing her creative talents, she became a notable painter exhibiting in art galleries, and a graphic artist for a printing company. Later in life, she served as a caregiver for seniors, where everyone called her, the "Joy" of their life.
Keeping busy was important to her. She was president of the Junior Women's club in the 1970's. During her time of leadership, her parties, fundraisers, and conservation committees were legendary, often being featured in local newspapers. Having many hobbies, she loved painting, teaching art classes to children and senior citizens, sewing, dancing, and singing. She was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church for 50 years, where she volunteered her time teaching religion and art classes, singing in the choir, and designed the flower arrangements every Sunday. You could always find Joy tending her beloved garden. Gardenias and roses were her favorites. She adored birds with a passion, and was a member of the Audubon society.
Most importantly, she never missed a chance to spend time with her family, children, and granddaughter Megan. She even attended a Journey concert last summer.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in late March, it was her wish to be with Jesus as quickly as possible. Deeply grounded in her faith, she passed on peacefully, surrounded by family at her home, with candlelight, and beautiful music playing in the background.
She transitioned to the other side of home with unshaken faith, courage, and beauty. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Denny, son Mark Hall, granddaughter Megan Denny, son in law John Denny, brother Craig Wolford, sister Mary King, and Buddy, her cat.
Friends and family are invited to her celebration of life at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Walnut Creek on June 9, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.
