Jorge Alberto Gomez Pellecer

–

Pleasant Hill, California

Jorge Alberto Gomez-Pellecer was born November 7, 1944 in Guatemala City, Guatemala where he spent his childhood playing soccer and concentrating on his studies. Jorge came to the United States in 1963 to pursue his college studies, earning multiple degrees including a PhD in Economics. He worked in finance and economic development and helped to develop programs in the Mission District that helped people acquire needed skills for a productive life after parole. Jorge was a lifelong learner and shared that love of learning with everyone he encountered. He met his wife, Kandayce, in the early 1980s and they married in Monterey in August 1987 and settled in the East Bay to raise their family. Throughout his life, Jorge was an avid runner completing many races, including the Lafayette Reservoir Race which he ran with daughter Becky on his shoulders.

Jorge was a loyal and loving father to his daughters Claudia Waite, Melanie Lindsley, and Rebecca Gomez-Pellecer, especially after the passing of his wife in November 2001. The family loved to go together to Bodega Bay and Occidental to eat delicious Italian food, salt water taffy, and fly kites. He loved hiking and running in the mountains, playing his flutes and drums, and enjoying the breathtaking views of the ocean and Golden Gate.

At the end of his life, Jorge was surrounded by those he loved most and shared tender moments with them all. He bravely fought cancer until his passing on February 4, 2017. Jorge is survived by his three daughters, son-in-laws Ken Waite and Bryce Lindsley, and grandson Kenrik Waite. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lindsley Residence on Sunday, March 5th at 3pm. In lieu of donations, please consider making a donation in Jorge's name to the charity of your choice.
