Eugene Ray Perkins

–

Pleasant Hill, California

Eugene Ray Perkins of Concord, California passed away into heaven Sunday morning, September 24th. Born in Calera, Oklahoma on August 26th 1926, Gene was the second of seven children born to Hearl Moberly Perkins and Ova Marie Perkins. Our beloved dad grew up on a farm in Oklahoma, and served in World War 2 on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater, through four major battles. Soon after the war he settled in Concord, met our mom, and went on to a lengthy career with Shell Chemical and Shell Oil Company in Martinez, California, retiring after 40 years. He and mom enjoyed California in a golden time during the 1950s, and then came to adopt us two in 1958 and 1960, giving us lives that we would have never otherwise enjoyed. They were wonderful parents and our lives were filled with many good things. Dad was a charter member of Concord United Methodist Church, and helped build the initial membership in the early 1950s. He was also a Past Master of the Mount Diablo Lodge #448 and was a proud member and honorary elder of the Chickasaw Nation. Dad enjoyed the great outdoors in California, especially fishing in the San Francisco Bay and the Sierras, and travel around the western US and Hawaii. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good laugh and telling a good joke. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Anna Jo Perkins, and his brothers Hearl, Donald, and Billie, and his sister Mary. He is survived by his children Tami (Doug) Doom of Escalon, and Mark (Rene) Perkins of Denver, his grandchildren Trevor, Trenton, Tiffany, Turner and Alex, his great grandchildren David and Calilove and his sisters Nina Lambert and Doris Ann Patterson. A memorial service will be held at Concord United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 5th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Concord United Methodist Church.
