Eugene Kuftin

Eugene Ivanovich Kuftin 1/25/28 - 10/28/08 Eugene Ivanovich Kuftin, a 37-year San Ramon resident, born in Orenburg, Russia in 1928, passed away at age 80 in Walnut Creek on October 28, 2008. Raised in Western China, he was awarded a very rare scholarship to university in Chunking and Nanking, China, becoming fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Completing his formal education, he also received medical training to become a physician. Leaving China, he lived in Dominican Republic, becoming fluent in Spanish and English. Eugene arrived in the U.S. in 1955, served in the U.S. Navy, and enjoyed a long career as an import/export cargo manager. Eugene is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judith Gardner Kuftin, daughter Maya Kuftin, son Gregory Kuftin (Julie Wellings), granddaughter Andrea Kuftin, nephew Eugene V. Kuftin (Kathleen), and first wife Ruth Bernstone Kuftin. He was predeceased by son Richard J. Eschenbach (d. 1988). Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Roselawn Cemetery, 1240 N. Livermore Avenue, Livermore, CA at 12:00 noon. Friends are invited to attend and join Eugene?s family for refreshments and remembrances following the service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of your choice.
