Douglas Albert Lane

–

Pleasant Hill, California

On February 22, 2024, Douglas Lane passed away from stroke complications with family and friends by his side. He will be remembered with great affection as a story-teller, a computer programmer, a volunteer, a live theater-goer and an intrepid traveler. Doug particularly loved Yosemite, Hawaii, Ashland (for Oregon Shakespeare plays) and Disneyland. For 20 years he relished playing his tuba with the Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and Temperance Society of Sacramento. He was an essential part of a computer contest team called PC2 which allowed him to travel the world for decades. Present at every family gathering, he was a loving friend and ever-ready with a quip or comment. He will be greatly missed. We mourn him and think of him with gratitude for our time together.
Left behind and bereft are his mother Beverly Lane, two brothers Andy and Greg with his wife Patti May, aunt Judy Stillman, cousins Jeff Huber(Tami), Shari Gonzalez (Jesse), Dane (Sally), Steve (Kelli) and Ben Speakman and innumerable friends. His father Jim Lane passed in 2017.
He asked that this be read at a memorial service: "Doug had a charmed life, he knew that. He loved his family and -- in his name -- raise your glass and join in this wish: Life is short, drink often of the cup of life, learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow." Send any donations in his name to the Sacramento Food Bank, 1951 Bell Ave., Sacramento CA 95838.
