Barbara Malmgren died on January 9, 2010 while residing at the Tiffany Court assisted living facility in Walnut Creek. Her family visited her frequently during her brief residence at the wonderful Tiffany Court and they were by her bedside when she passed away. Barbara was born on May 19, 1921 in San Francisco to Howard and Theresa Cooper. She lived on Noe Street and went to the community schools. She had some great childhood memories of San Francisco. She was fond of music and loved to listen and dance to the big bands that were popular during her youth. In June of 1942, she married and began raising a family with her devoted husband, Alfred Malmgren. Barbara and Alfred lived for a short period of time in San Francisco and Richmond and then moved permanently to Walnut Creek in 1952. After moving to Walnut Creek, Barbara enjoyed keeping a lovely house and garden. She made lifelong bonds with a wonderful group of neighbors and friends. As a young woman, Barbara acquired good office skills which allowed her to work the occasional part-time job when life permitted. However, she spent most of her time maintaining a safe, comfortable household while planning and participating in many fun activities with her family and friends. She consistently and unselfishly supported the goals and endeavors of her children. Barbara always enjoyed a good board game or cards with her children and grandchildren. She loved playing contract bridge with friends. She read the San Francisco Chronicle daily and watched the television program Jeopardy every night. As a volunteer, Barbara donated her time at the hospital, Friends of the Library, and in the San Francisco theater district where she served as an usher. She was always conscientious about her diet and exercise which undoubtedly accounted for her long and healthy life. She was a gracious and fun lady?.she will be missed by those she left behind. Preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Malmgren. Barbara is survived by her three sons, Donald (Jone), Gary (Marcia) and Wayne, and her three grandchildren, Shadney, Morgan, and Megan. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
